flier job

worked as a fliers distributor on sat morning to give out fliers to those people running for a event at bedok reservoir. piang. have to wear a sports tank top for the job. 2 hours and i got $20. worked together with wei jian and my brother. the bad thing about this job is you have to wake up really early and the good thing about it is that we three can just work together and do stupid stuffs.

after the job we went dhoby ghaut for arcade. fell in love with that latest edition of soul calibur. damn nice. training after that. really like judo alot now. very fun. sparring is just like playing game.

anyway, regarding the previous post, i disagree with myth 4 and 5. your character moulding depends largely on yourself. as long as your master fights well, he's good. and martial arts are not like any sports. definitely.

12th may is coming. sometimes, maybe my best just isn't good enough.

martial arts myth

saw this on a martial arts' forum the other day. think its rather true thus posting it on my blog although i dun agree on some points.

Myth1: You can defend yourself because you have MA training. NO! Like swimming. No amount of training in strokes can teach you to swim unless you touch the water. This is a dangerous false confidence that can get a person into more trouble than if he believes he is a wimp.

Myth 2: Modern wushu will preserve Chinese MA Wrong. Modern Wushu have roots in gymnastics, not martial arts. It is a form of expression and has nothing to do with traditional Chinese MA except in the expression of it. It is a performance art and not a martial art. 90% of the teachings in Chinese MA is not taught in modern wushu.

Myth3: Chinese MA can be preserved by preserving the forms Wrong. Forms are the means of training the essence and has no value in itself. The true ability of Chinese MA comes from the essence and not the forms. What is essence? It is the control of execution. The old saying, "教功不教法" refers to this. Without the essence, the forms are useless because the movements cannot be properly use.

Myth 4: MA teach honor and respect Like real! It depends on who is your teacher. I have very little respect for most teachers because their interests lie more in fame than MA. Medals chasers. Lineage chasers. Just to name a few types. Such teachers cannot possibly be passing on the right values. The worst part is when they claim to be.

Myth 5: MA is a best form of health exercise False. MA has no higher value than any other form of sport exercise and like all sport exercise, it also has potential for injuries. (Not even referring to sparring, just from training)

Myth 6: You can do MA till old age Not if you are learning the forms and not the essence. Most traditional systems are design to focus on techniques, not brute force or speed. The more experience one gets, the less strength or speed is needed, so you can practise till old age. If you are using speed and strength till old age... unlikely..

Myth 7: Modern Wushu will educate the public in Chinese MA Personally, I felt more like mislead! I rather they market folk dance than performance wushu. Modern wushu must shed the image of itself being traditional Chinese martial arts because it is not a martial arts, it is a performance art. In countries where self-defence is still part of survival, ppl believes wushu is Traditional Chinese MA and associate both as useless MA. Modern wushu creates, as a MA, the impression of old Qing Imperial China, a lot of show but not much substance. I remember recently a Singaporean teenager said to me, "I don't train in Chinese MA, I TRAINED JAPANESE!". His reason is simple, Chinese MA is useless. Is this the impression we want on the next generation? Really what honor is there left?

Myth 8: Modern wushu is the evolution of traditional MA because traditional has lost its value in the modern world Changing something from its original purpose is not evolution of the art. Evolution is when it is made more effective for its intended purpose. Modern wushu is a new art by itself. A gun is intended to fire an object in a distance. Whether you use it for war or otherwise, the purpose is to shoot an object at a distance. Scenario: Let's say ppl decided that gun can only be use for war and since there is no war, there is no need for guns. Then ppl decided that all guns can be used as hammers. After years as hammers, the guns are rusty and can no longer fire. So is the gun a gun or a hammer? Then if war started again, and people remember the gun. They took out their hammer, which is suppose to be a gun that can no longer fire. Is it a gun or a hammer? hmm.. is something what it says to be because it claims to be or what it says to be because that is what it is?

starting of school

school holiday ended just like that. experienced lots of ups and downs during this period of time. not going to elaborate though.

but life is never unfair. while i'm suffering from all this nonsense, tp engineering girls are getting prettier and more in terms of amount! (just kiddin, kj!)

chalet of two couples and junping

our chalet is over! it was not the way i imagined it to be, nonetheless, it was fun.

little people, lots of space. the people are all those we already know very well, and i think its one of the factors that make it fun. no strangers, no restrictions, no awkwardness or whatsoever even if we dun do our hair. haha. (of cos we brought our caps) =D

first day was like a warm up. lesser talks, lesser interactions. we went to the giant hypermarket to stock up our groceries for the bbq. and the total amount was $166.60. -.-" ok, maybe cos the vodka was quite expensive also. haha. and the guys played mavel vs capcom in the chalet. hw special hur?? lolx.

second day, woke up around noon. went for breakfast at downtown east. watched tv and made hopscotch layout on the floor. fun. clumsy junping cant stand up on one leg, and wei jian always win. if i win then it'd be even more fun. lolx. night fell and we prepared the bbq stuff together with qin ning's two frens. eat here eat there aso dun feel enough, then called junping buy takeaway food. haha. after that drank our dear vodka up. damn suay. i drank the most. and that day was the first time i saw how i would look like if i apply blusher. haha.

third day was the check-out day. woke up real early to check-out. can't they just give us more time to sleep more? suckers. went for mac's breakfast after checking out.

overall, chalet was fun and the bonding gets closer, be it brothers, girlfriends or friends.

anyway, i should be able to go back to tp. minister's letter does work. haha.

back...

long time no blog everybody! people are reminding me to update my post and here i am! gotta recap what have i done during this period of time.

hmmm. had a job for 3 days, telesurveyor. called many companies and asked them to do surveys through the phone. hate those unfriendly people. lousy job. earned super little. maybe like $30 a day for 8 hours? idiot.

had another job for 3 days also, traffic counter. sit down at starbucks to count how many people go in starbucks from 12-10pm. super boring. sit until butt can grow flower. luckily last two days got people like kejia, wei jian, shi hui and qin ning to pei me. haha. got not bad de salary for this kinda stupid job. go play arcade people also dunno.

now, im working as a admin assistant. lots and lots of paper works to do. gonna be flooded by those papers. never mind. poor people have to find ways and means to find money yeah? haha.

recently really boring. nothing better to do so trained extra hard in my martial arts. hope there's improvement yeah?

anyway, im gonna have a chalet this coming week, together with wei jian, kejia, qin ning and jun ping. supposed it'll be quite fun? anyone (especially people interested in sparring) may like to join us in the chalet.

2 more days to training, the day whereby i will slam this stupid, act-pro aiki-jujitsu guy. whoever is my brother's enemy, is my enemy.
